Peak Lists

Volcanoes in Europe You Can Climb

Europe's volcanoes range from Elbrus and Kazbek, extinct giants of the Caucasus, to restless Etna and Stromboli and the ice-capped volcanoes of Iceland. Many are among the easiest high summits you can reach: long, steady walks on cinder and old lava.

36 volcanoes are listed here, highest first, most of them in Iceland (12) and Italy (6). On active volcanoes access depends on the current activity: summit areas can be closed or open only with a guide at short notice, so check the restrictions on each peak's page before you go.
