No summit route is published. A trekkers' path climbs from a ford of the upper Bolshaya Laba through forest to lakes and shepherds' pastures below Abgytskha, then by scree and snow to the Abgytskha pass (about 2,830 m) south-east of the summit; the last 2 km and 300 m along the ridge are unrecorded.

The upper Bolshaya Laba is reached by trekkers from Arkhyz over the passes of the Arkasara ridge (for example the Amanauz pass) or up the Laba valley from the north. About 1 km above the mouth of the Burnaya (1,630 m) ford the Laba; on the far side a path climbs through dense forest to the summer pastures of Mount Abgytskha. Above the tree line, on a broad terrace at the foot of the stepped mountain, are two small lakes and a Karachay shepherds' hut; a narrow, sheltered meadow beside the lake makes a good camp. Beyond the lake a spur hides the way to the Abgytskha pass. The path traverses up through scrub and scree (about 1 hour) to a meadow, then turns into a valley beside a moraine ridge (2,265 m) with a 200 m blue lake behind it. Follow a hollow, best entered high along the moraine crest, over a snowfield and scree to a green saddle, which is only a step; the pass is then visible in the rocky ridge above and is reached by a final rise of snow and loose scree. Old fortifications remain in the rocks of the pass ridge. From the pass the summit lies about 2 km to the north-west and some 300 m higher. No description of this ridge was found; assess it on the spot. On the south side of the pass the 1.1 km Abgytskha glacier lies in a deep cirque of dark rock.

Overview
Abgytskha (about 3,130–3,156 m) is a stepped rock-and-scree massif above the upper Bolshaya Laba, between the Laba and Sanchar valleys just north of the Main Caucasus Ridge. Lakes, shepherds' pastures and a small glacier surround it, but no summit route has been published.
Abgytskha rises south of the upper Bolshaya Laba in the far west of Karachay-Cherkessia, where the Laba, Sanchar and Abgytskha valleys drain the northern side of the Main Caucasus Ridge. On its southern side the Abgytskha glacier, about 1.1 km long, lies in a deep cirque of dark cliffs and gives rise to the Abgytskha river, which falls through a canyon with a large two-tier waterfall to the Sanchar. To the north, a terrace at its foot holds two small lakes and a Karachay shepherds' hut above the forest.
The area is visited by trekking groups crossing the Abgytskha pass (Russian 1A*, about 2,830 m) between the Laba and the Abgytskha glacier, and the passes around Gribza and Tsegerker to the south (1B–2A). No ascent report for the summit itself was found; the most natural line would follow the ridge north-west from the Abgytskha pass.
The upper Laba is remote, with a border post at the Sanchar confluence, and is in the Russian border zone close to the line with Abkhazia.
Climbing Notes
Treat the summit as an exploratory scramble for self-sufficient trekkers. Plan several days: reaching the upper Laba from Arkhyz over the Arkasara ridge passes takes two or more days, then a day to the pasture lakes and a day for the pass and the ridge. Bring a helmet, ice axe and light crampons for snowfields, a short rope, and be prepared to ford the Laba. Obtain a border-zone pass in advance and register your route with the rescue service in Arkhyz.
