A debris flow closed the Val d'Uina path for about three weeks in late summer 2025; by 18 September 2025 it had reopened to walkers and bikes while two wooden bridges were being repaired, and stayed closed to cars lower down. Relevant to descents into the Val d'Uina.

A long, lonely scramble from the Lower Engadine floor: about 1,900 m of ascent from Sur En through forest to the clearing of S-chalambert, over the lower Piz S-chalambert Dadora (2,679 m), along the ridge to the summit block and by scree ledges and sandy gullies in the west flank to the top (T5, I). About 5 hours up.

From the Sent, Sur En bus stop (1,121 m) take the forest road of the Via dal Munt via Points 1189 and 1417 to Point 1624, then a steep path through the forest to S-chalambert (2,069 m), a clearing with two huts but no water. A little further north-east on the trail is the only water source of the route; fill up there. The path fades in the meadows; climb trackless to Point 2449 on the west ridge of Piz S-chalambert Dadora, where staying close to the crest is easier than the slopes below. The west flank of the Dadora is climbed by gullies and rock steps to its south ridge (T5, II on the line taken in 2025; older reports mention a hunters' path slightly further north that is easier if you can find it), then easy ground to the summit cross of the Dadora (2,679 m; about 3 hours from Sur En). Descend the ridge to the saddle at Point 2584, pass Point 2667 on easy ground to its west, and follow a visible path along the ridge to the foot of the summit block. Pass Point 2958 on the south; cairns mark the junctions and only one or two short, easy climbing moves are needed (T4+, I+). Traverse the west flank, first on flat scree, then steeply on sandy gravel to a small saddle with a cairn at about 2,859 m (T4, I), then go right (south) along a short, slightly exposed ledge into a steep sandy gully leading to a third saddle at about 2,895 m (T5-, I). Easy scree in the south-west flank leads up to the north ridge and the summit, which has a pole and a summit register (about 5 hours from Sur En in 2025). The usual return is the same way; a direct descent south-west into the Val d'Uina from the saddle between the summit and Piz dal Cuatal is possible but long and loose.

Route confidence 36%Overview
A 3,031 m limestone summit above Ramosch and Sur En in the Lower Engadine, the higher of the two S-chalambert peaks and the highest point of the Sesvenna group east of the Schlinigpass. A long, trackless T5 scramble of about 1,900 m from the valley, with no hut and little water.
Piz S-chalambert Dadaint (the 'inner' S-chalambert; swisstopo spelling S-chalambert) rises on the south side of the Lower Engadine between the Val d'Uina and the Val d'Assa, above Sent, Sur En and Ramosch. Its lower twin, Piz S-chalambert Dadora (2,679 m), stands to the north-west and is crossed on the usual route. Further along the crest lies Piz dal Cuatal.
The mountain is rarely visited, for two reasons: there is no hut or high base, so the summit is about 1,900 m above the valley floor, and the rock is not good. Above the forest clearing of S-chalambert there is no marked path; cairns guide you through the upper west flank, where scree ledges and sandy gullies alternate with short, easy rock steps. The summit has a pole and a summit register.
It suits experienced mountain walkers who enjoy long, solitary days in rough terrain and can find their own line.
Climbing Notes
Expect about 5 hours up and 8 hours or more for the round trip from Sur En, with roughly 1,900 m of ascent plus the re-ascent of the Dadora on the way back. Fill water at the spring just above S-chalambert; there is none higher up. Navigation decides the difficulty: on the right line the summit block is T4–T5 with a few moves of I, but parties that missed the cairns at about 2,900 m found T6 ground. A helmet is sensible in the sandy gullies. The 2009 hikr party split the trip into two days with a night at S-chalambert. Descents straight into the Val d'Uina are long, loose scree runs; one 2025 variant via Piz dal Cuatal was T6+ and is not recommended by its author.
