The shortest way up: from the mountain road at Litlebøvatnet above Dalsfjorden, go south off-trail onto the ridge leading to Geitmjølkhornet, then follow a gentle ridge south-east to the small summit. About 700 m of ascent and 3 km one way; unmarked, with a fair amount of scree.
About 100% of this line is approximate (no mapped trail; drawn from the terrain). Check it against a map before relying on it.

From Volda take the ferry to Folkestad, turn onto Fv40 just after the ferry quay and drive about 11 km south-west along Dalsfjorden. At Dale turn left up the mountain road ('Fjellvegen') to Litlebøvatnet and park by the lake. The road usually opens in late spring. There is no marked path. Head south from the lake onto the ridge that leads up to Geitmjølkhornet, then follow the gentle ridge south-east all the way to the summit, which is small, with a cairn and a trig point. Expect scree and, early in the season, snowfields. Cornices form along the whole summit ridge in winter and spring. Return the same way, or make a loop: ut.no describes a round trip of 7.9 km and about 5 hours taking in neighbouring tops. On skis in late spring friflyt gives 700 m of ascent, 3 km and 2–3 hours up and down; a steep (up to 35°) descent south-west to Sanden sæter is possible on avalanche-safe days but needs transport back.

A 1,285 m peak with over 1,000 m of prominence in the southern Sunnmøre Alps between Dalsfjorden and Bjørkedalen in Volda. Three ridges meet at its small summit; the easiest way up is an unmarked hike from the mountain road at Litlebøvatnet, while the southern approach crosses an exposed saddle from Bytingstinden.
Trollvasstinden (Trollvastind on some maps) rises south of Volda, between Dalsfjorden to the north and Bjørkedalen to the south, in the Dalsfjordfjella part of the Sunnmøre Alps. Its prominence of about 1,000 m makes it one of the 100 most prominent peaks in Norway. Three ridges lead to the summit, which is small, with a cairn and a trig point. Bytingstinden (1,240 m) is a subsidiary top to the south, joined by a narrow, exposed saddle.
The north side is the easy one. A mountain road climbs from Dale on Dalsfjorden to Litlebøvatnet, leaving about 700 m of unmarked walking over scree and up a gentle ridge to the top. From Bjørkedalen in the south the climb is twice as long and finishes with the airy ridge from Bytingstinden. The north-east ridge over Kvassehornet is described as steep.
In late spring, once the road to Litlebøvatnet opens, it is a short ski tour that holds the evening sun. Cornices form along the whole summit ridge.
Climbing Notes
From Litlebøvatnet this is a half-day hike for experienced walkers: no marked path, scree and possibly old snow, about 700 m of ascent. Navigation skills matter in cloud. The southern route from Bjørkedalen is a long day (about 7 km and 4.5–6 hours up) and needs a head for heights on the saddle below the summit.
On skis, carry avalanche equipment and keep well back from the cornices along the summit ridge; the south-west slope towards Sanden sæter (up to 35°) is avalanche terrain. The road to Litlebøvatnet usually opens in late spring.
