The short standard route up the highest point of Karpathos: from the end of the asphalt at the Lastos plateau (about 700 m) a red-dotted path climbs north-west over dry, rocky phrygana slopes to a saddle with a lone tree and the summit cross. About 500 m of ascent, 1.6 km and 1½ hours; no shade anywhere.

Drive from Pigadia via Aperi and Volada; before Othos turn right onto the narrow road signposted to Lastos and the Kali Limni taverna and park at the end of the asphalt on the Lastos plateau (about 700 m), near the 'Taverna Kali Limni – Kali Kardiá'. The path starts close to the free parking, marked with two red arrows, and heads north-west to a big isolated tree where the routes divide: continue straight on. Rare red dots lead gently and then more steeply over partly rocky but easy ground, alongside a rocky outcrop on the left, through dry terrain where the only vegetation is cushion-shaped thorny phrygana. At a patch of small trees near a crest turn right and climb steeper, still easy rocky ground to a broad saddle with a characteristic lone tree and the first view of northern Karpathos and the islet of Saria. Just before the tree turn left; the summit cross and summit book are a few minutes away. The view takes in Kassos, the west coast and, on clear days, Rhodes and Crete. SummitPost gives about 500 m of ascent and 1½ hours; Karpathosinfo gives 1.6 km one way. Descend the same way. A much longer, wilder and well-marked route (red-black marks) climbs about 1,200 m from Lefkos on the west coast in about 3½ hours via the island's only spring on that side; the path between the summit and Lefkos can be hard to follow. Fog often forms on the upper section even in summer, and the loose stones make proper boots worthwhile.

Route confidence 75%Overview
The 1,215 m high point of Karpathos, a bare limestone summit with a cross above the Lastos plateau in the middle of the island. A short, stony, shadeless hike from the end of the road with views over Kassos, Saria and, on clear days, Rhodes and Crete.
Kali Limni ('good lake' in Greek) is the highest summit of the mountain chain running the length of Karpathos, the long, narrow second-largest island of the Dodecanese between Crete and Rhodes. The mountain massif is also known as Lastos after the high plateau on its south-east side, where a road ends at about 700 m beside a taverna. The upper slopes are dry and rocky, covered in cushion-shaped thorny phrygana; the summit carries a cross, a summit book and an information board on the rare endemic bellflower Asyneuma giganteum.
The standard route from Lastos is short: about 500 m of ascent and 1½ hours up a sparsely red-dotted path, steeper and rockier near the top. The much longer route from Lefkos on the west coast climbs about 1,200 m through partly burnt pine woods. There is no shade and no water on the Lastos route, and fog often forms on the summit even in summer.
Kali Limni is often called the highest point of the Dodecanese, but Attavyros on Rhodes is usually given as slightly higher (about 1,216 m), so it is better described as the second-highest.
Climbing Notes
Any reasonably fit walker in proper boots can do the Lastos route in 2½–3 hours return. Carry plenty of water and sun protection, and in summer start early or late: the slopes face the sun with no shade. The meltemi blows hard in July and August. If fog comes in, follow the waymarks carefully on descent; there is little else to steer by on the bare upper slopes.
For a full day, link Lastos and the summit with the descent to Lefkos (one-way, about 4–4½ hours according to AllTrails listings), arranging transport back; the path between the summit and Lefkos is reportedly hard to follow in places. The best seasons are April–May and September–October.
