Start in Kruševo, which sits on the southern slopes of the mountain at about 1,250–1,350 m. Trails lead north through forest and past a cross on the hillside to the Sv. Preobraženie (Holy Transfiguration) monastery, a recent building partly funded by the singer Toše Proeski, about an hour from town. From the monastery a broad, gentle ridge that is easy to walk leads north-west to the summit of Stara Musica in roughly 45 minutes to an hour (a local guide gives 4 km and about 200 m of height difference from the monastery). Descend the same way, or continue north-west along the ridge to Kozjak (1,762 m). An alternative starts at Pusta Reka (about 1,130 m) on the north-west side: about 1 hour to a cross on the ridge above the village and 1½ hours along the ridge to the summit, then down via the monastery to Kruševo (about 15 km and 4¼ hours in all). Winters are long, cold and snowy; a club party did the Pusta Reka traverse in February 2021.

Buševa Planina is a forested mountain in western North Macedonia whose highest point, Stara Musica (1,788 m), rises above Kruševo, the highest town in the Balkans. An easy half-day ridge walk from the town via the Sv. Preobraženie monastery.
Buševa Planina covers about 325 km² between the Treska valley to the north, the Pelagonian plain (Prilepsko Pole) to the east, the Crna Reka valley to the south and the Cersko Pole field to the west; with the neighbouring Baba Sač and Luben it forms one massif. Its main ridge carries about ten summits above 1,500 m, the highest being Stara Musica (also simply Musica, 1,788 m), followed by Kozjak (1,762 m). Despite its modest height it has over 1,200 m of prominence.
Unlike the limestone giants of the region, Buševa is an old mountain of crystalline schists with a granite core around Kruševo, and it is well forested, mostly with beech (the Kruševska Korija beech forest is over 300 years old), oak coppice and planted conifers. Winters are long, cold and snowy; summers are short and cool.
The mountain is closely tied to Kruševo, which sits on its slopes at about 1,250–1,350 m and was a focus of the 1903 Ilinden Uprising; Mečkin Kamen (1,454 m), in the south of the range, is both a memorial to the uprising and a well-known paragliding launch. A small ski area with a chairlift rises directly above the town. Stara Musica is a straightforward walk on forest paths and a gentle ridge rather than a mountaineering objective.
Climbing Notes
A T2 forest and ridge walk suitable for anyone with basic hiking fitness: roughly 600 m of ascent and 2½–3 hours up from Kruševo, or a 4–4½ hour traverse from Pusta Reka over the summit down to Kruševo. Carry a GPS track, as forest roads and paths branch frequently and waymarks may be sparse. In winter the mountain is snow-covered and the ridge can be done on snowshoes or skis by experienced parties. Kruševo has hotels and private rooms and makes an easy base.
History
The forests above Kruševo were the scene of fighting during the Ilinden Uprising of 1903; at Mečkin Kamen, Pitu Guli and a small force held up the Ottoman army advancing on the town, an event commemorated by a monument. The Sv. Preobraženie monastery on the approach to the summit is a recent foundation, partly funded by the singer Toše Proeski. No record of a first ascent of Stara Musica was found.
