The marked 'Queen's Route' from the Breimo car park south of Sandnessjøen: a long, gentle walk along Fjellsåsen to the Fjellsåsdammen reservoir, then a steady, steep climb with fixed ropes on the east side of Botnkrona to the highest of the Seven Sisters. About 1,000 m of ascent.

From Sandnessjøen drive 3.5–4 km south on Fv17, turn onto Markvollveien (Fv7264) and continue about 4.2 km to the signposted Breimo car park (toilet, benches, map board). Walk the gravel road towards the power station, then take the marked path left into the forest by the power line. It is a flat cart track at first and climbs gently along Fjellsåsen; after about 15 minutes a signposted fork splits the routes to Botnkrona and Grytfoten — follow Botnkrona. Cross the outlet stream just before Fjellsåsdammen (211 m), about 2.2 km from the start. At the dam the path turns uphill. Use the newer path that follows the ridge on the north side of the river from the dam rather than the old Botnkrona trail. It climbs steadily and steeply up the east side of the mountain, with fixed ropes on the first steep slope and several later ones. At a junction at about 970 m turn right and scramble up the final rocky slope to the summit (book box), with views to Dønna, Lovund and Træna and south-west along the other Sisters. A fit walker needs 2–3 hours up and about 1 hour down in dry summer conditions. Descend the same way, or continue to Grytfoten (1,019 m): from the 970 m junction go left around the south side of Botnkrona and up Grytfoten's west side, then descend west over slabs between Grytfoten and Skjæringen (slippery when wet) back to the first fork. The full Queen's Route with both summits is about 14 km and 1,290 m of ascent.

Route confidence 75%Overview
The highest and northernmost of the Seven Sisters (1,072 m), rising straight from the sea on Alsten island beside Sandnessjøen. A marked path with fixed ropes climbs its steep east side in 2–3 hours.
De syv søstre (the Seven Sisters) are a 22 km chain of steep gneiss-granite peaks on the island of Alsten in Alstahaug municipality, Helgeland, a familiar sight from the Hurtigruten coastal ship. Botnkrona, at the northern end, is the highest point of the island and the municipality, and its prominence equals its height.
The usual ascent, known as Dronningruta (the Queen's Route) after the path Queen Sonja took on her first visit, starts a few kilometres south of Sandnessjøen. After an easy walk to the Fjellsåsdammen reservoir the path climbs the steep east side with fixed ropes on several slopes. Botnkrona is considered the hardest of the seven, but only on the final stretch, and it does not stop reasonably fit summer walkers.
From the top the view runs out over the Helgeland archipelago to Dønna, Lovund and Træna, and south-west along the other Sisters. Every summit has a visitors' book, and walkers who climb all seven can claim a certificate from the local tourist association.
Climbing Notes
In summer this is a demanding day hike rather than a climb: about 1,000 m of ascent, 2–3 hours up and about 1 hour down for a fit walker, on a well-marked path with fixed ropes on the steepest slopes. Sturdy boots with ankle support are needed; the rock is slippery when wet. Coastal weather changes fast, so carry warm and waterproof layers.
Combine with Grytfoten for a 14 km, 1,300 m loop (4–5 hours), or attempt the full Seven Sisters traverse (about 23–26 km and 3,000 m of ascent, usually done south to north over 15–20 hours; the record is under 4 hours).
In winter, the ascent is only for experienced and well-equipped parties.
History
A marked route from Sundøya via the Horva transmitter road was added in summer 2008. Grytfotvatnet, the lake between Grytfoten and Botnkrona, once supplied Sandnessjøen's drinking water. In local legend the sisters ended up on Alsten as a result of a fight between the mythical figures Vågakallen and Suliskongen.
