Routes
1Sources differ: medium (середня), 10.1 km loop, 974 m, about 4 h (karpaty.rocks)
The shortest way up the highest summit of Svydovets: from the Drahobrat ski resort (about 1,340 m) climb 420 m to Zhandarm (1,763 m), then follow the broad, open ridge south to Velyka Blyznytsia (1,881 m). About 10 km and 975 m for the loop, roughly 4 hours' walking; trails are largely unmarked.

Start in the upper part of the Drahobrat ski resort, reached by road from Yasinia. Climb south-west up the grassy slopes above the resort, 420 m in about 3 km, to Zhandarm (also called Mt Drahobrat, 1,763 m), the first top on the main Svydovets ridge. Lake Ivor lies near Zhandarm and can be added as a detour. Follow the ridge south at 1,730–1,840 m to Velyka Blyznytsia, the highest point of the massif; its twin, Blyznytsia (1,872 m), lies about 900 m further south-east. The ridge is wide and grassy but entirely open, with about 5 km of the loop above 1,500 m. The karpaty.rocks loop returns by dropping about 380 m steeply (up to 22 %) off the ridge and traversing back to Drahobrat, with springs below Blyznytsia that may dry up in late summer. Marking is absent or poor and there are few signs, so carry a GPS track; in fog the broad ridge is confusing. In winter the slopes above Drahobrat are avalanche terrain.

Route confidence 65%Overview
Velyka Blyznytsia (1,881 m) is the highest summit of the Svydovets range in Zakarpattia, one of a pair of near-identical 'twin' tops above the Drahobrat ski resort. A largely unmarked 10 km loop over Zhandarm and the open grassy ridge reaches it in about 4 hours' walking.
The Blyznytsi ('twins') are the two highest summits of Svydovets, a long ridge of high pastures in the Rakhiv district of Zakarpattia, west of Chornohora: Velyka Blyznytsia (1,881–1,883 m) and Blyznytsia (1,872 m), 900 m apart and so alike in shape that they gave the mountain its name. The massif has small mountain lakes such as Ivor, Apshynets and Vorozheska, volcanic rock formations protected as geological reserves, and rare plants including edelweiss and mountain avens on the high pastures.
The easiest access is from the Drahobrat ski resort at about 1,300–1,400 m. From there it is a 420 m climb to Zhandarm and an open ridge walk to the summit. Longer routes come from the railway at Kvasy (about 24 km and 10 hours via Mala Blyznytsia) and from Yasinia, and the summit is part of the three-to-four-day Svydovets traverse from Kvasy to Krasna.
The terrain is easy, but marking is poor or absent, the ridge is fully exposed to weather, and fog makes navigation on the broad pastures difficult. Svydovets lies away from the state border; a 2024 guide lists it among areas needing no border-guard permit.
Climbing Notes
A moderate hike for anyone fit enough for about 1,000 m of ascent: allow 4–6 hours for the loop from Drahobrat with stops. Carry a GPS track, water (springs may dry up in late summer), windproofs and poles. June to September is the season; in winter Drahobrat is a busy ski resort and the ridge is avalanche terrain suitable only for experienced, equipped parties.
Ukraine is under martial law. Carry a passport or ID; men aged 18–60 must carry military registration documents. Mountain rescue units are based in Yasinia and Kvasy (emergency numbers 101 or 112). Foreign visitors should check their government's travel advice.
