A steady half-day walk above Tenno: from the car park below Sella di Calino (about 930 m) SAT path 412 climbs steeply through woods to Sella di Castiol (1,350 m), traverses the west flank to the pastures of Malga di Tenno (1,575 m) and finishes up a grassy slope to the broad summit. About 870 m of ascent, 2½–3 hours up; no difficulties.

From Riva del Garda take the SS421 to Tenno and on to Ville del Monte. Turn right at the junction after the church, pass the hamlets of Canale and Calvola and follow the paved road up to the car park for Rifugio San Pietro (about 930 m), just below Sella di Calino. Walk north along the forest road (SAT 406) and after about 10 minutes, just before the saddle at 966 m, turn left onto SAT 412, signed for Monte Misone and Selletta del Castiol. The path climbs fairly steeply on a rough surface through woods and a few hairpins to Sella di Castiol (1,350 m), about 1¼ hours from the start. It then eases and makes a long, open traverse along the west side of the mountain above Lake Tenno to the junction with path 433, with the meadows of Malga di Tenno (Malga Misone, 1,575 m) in sight, about 45 minutes more. As soon as you reach the meadow, turn right on a well-trodden path signed for Monte Misone, which climbs a fairly steep grassy slope to the broad, undulating summit in another 45 minutes. The east face drops away in cliffs; the view takes in the whole northern Garda basin. Return the same way (about 2¼ hours). A variant descent leaves the ascent path before Malga di Tenno, crosses the west flank to the south ridge and drops steeply past a small malga to rejoin path 412 shortly before Sella di Castiol. There is no water or refreshment on the way; Rifugio San Pietro, a few minutes from the car park, serves food.

Overview

A 1,803 m grassy summit above Lake Tenno and Riva del Garda, cliff-bound to the east and gentle to the west. A quiet half-day walk of about 870 m ascent on marked SAT paths, with a broad view over the northern Garda basin.

Monte Misone rises north of Tenno in the Garda Trentino, between the Val Lomasona and the mountains of the Val di Concei and Val Gavardina. It is part of the Garda Prealps: its east face is a line of steep rock, while the west side falls in long grassy and wooded slopes to Lake Tenno. The summit is broad and undulating, with open views over Lake Garda, Riva and the Sarca valley.

The usual ascent starts high, at the car park for Rifugio San Pietro near Sella di Calino (about 930 m), reached by a paved road from Tenno. Path 412 climbs a rough, steep woodland stretch to Sella di Castiol, then becomes a pleasant open traverse to the summer pastures of Malga di Tenno (also called Malga Misone) and a short grassy climb to the top. It is a walk rather than a climb, but there is no water and no refreshment on the way.

Chamois are often seen in the western gullies, and the mountain is a common snowshoe objective in winter.

Climbing Notes

Suitable for any reasonably fit hiker: about 870 m of ascent and 4¼–5 hours for the round trip. The lower section to Sella di Castiol is the most tiring part. Carry all your water, especially in summer when the west-facing traverse is hot; start early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms. In winter the route is a snowshoe outing; snowshoes and microspikes are recommended and avalanche conditions on the open upper slopes should be checked. Rifugio San Pietro near the start serves local food after the walk.
