A long, steep and rough day of about 950 m of ascent from the bridge over the Riu Piras near Gonnosfanadiga (about 320 m): up the boulder-filled gorge of Canali Mau, through holm-oak woods to the pass of Genn'e Impì (1,035 m), then along the stony south-east ridge over Punta Sa Cabixetta (1,202 m) to Punta Perda de Sa Mesa (1,236 m), the highest point of southern Sardinia.

From Gonnosfanadiga take the road towards the Perd'e Pibera park. Just after a small road bridge over the Riu Piras (Località Zàiri), park in the wide clearing on the right. A dirt track on the left runs beside the road and soon narrows into path 102, which follows the stream into Canali Mau, a gorge between high rock walls floored with large water-worn boulders; a shrine and plaque commemorate two canyoneers who died here. After about 4 km the path enters the wood and climbs steeply in hairpins past old charcoal-burners' platforms, on uneven, slippery stony ground, then crosses a pathless rocky stretch below cliffs guided by cairns and paint marks to the pass of Genn'e Impì (1,035 m), about 2½ hours from the start. Signposts here point left to Punta Cammedda and right to the higher summits. The ridge path heads north-west from the pass. It is faint at first among the rocks, then follows the long south-east ridge with continual ups and downs over Punta Sa Cabixetta (1,202 m, small metal cross and a niche with a statuette), down to a saddle and up to Punta Perda de Sa Mesa (1,236 m), about 1¼ hours from Genn'e Impì as signed. On clear days the view reaches the coast of Arbus and Buggerru, the Oristano plain, the Montiferru and the Gennargentu. Descend the same way (about 3 hours; hard on the knees). Shorter alternatives exist: path D-103 now links Ponte Riu Piras directly with the summit from the north (4.7 km, 2¾ hours, EE according to Forestas), and with a suitable vehicle the unpaved road to the Togoro plateau (Genna su Padenti) allows an ascent of only about 400 m. Avoid Canali Mau after heavy rain: the gorge is shaped by floods.

Punta Perda de Sa Mesa (1,236 m) is the highest point of the Linas massif and of all southern Sardinia. It is reached by long, steep and rough paths from the Riu Piras valley above Gonnosfanadiga, through a boulder-filled gorge and holm-oak forest to a stony ridge with views across half the island.
Monte Linas is a mountain group in south-west Sardinia, between Gonnosfanadiga, Villacidro, Arbus and Fluminimaggiore. The massif is largely granite, deeply cut by gorges and waterfalls, and was mined for lead and zinc for centuries; much of it is now forest managed by the regional agency Forestas and part of the Monte Linas–Marganai natural park. Its highest tops line a crest above the Riu Piras valley: Punta Perda de Sa Mesa (1,236 m), Punta Cammedda (1,214 m) and Punta Sa Cabixetta (1,202 m).
The summit is a stony top with a wide view: on clear days to the coast at Arbus and Buggerru, the Oristano plain, the Montiferru and the Gennargentu. Sardegna Sentieri, the regional trail portal, describes the approach as long and strenuous because of the steep slopes and calls it an outing for experienced hikers. The classic line from Gonnosfanadiga climbs through the gorge of Canali Mau and woods of holm oak, strawberry tree and some yew to the pass of Genn'e Impì, then follows the ridge over Punta Sa Cabixetta.
The Linas is quiet, with little infrastructure: no huts, sparse water and waymarking that is good on the main paths but faint on the upper ridge and descents.
Climbing Notes
Expect a full day: about 950 m of ascent and 6–7 hours for the round trip from Ponte Riu Piras, on steep, uneven and slippery stony paths with a short pathless rocky section below Genn'e Impì guided by cairns. Good fitness and sure-footedness are needed; no climbing gear. Carry plenty of water (one weak spring on path 102), a windproof layer for the exposed ridge, and a GPS track or map, as the ridge and some descent paths are faint. Do not enter Canali Mau during or after heavy rain. Summer heat at low altitude makes July and August unpleasant; autumn, winter and spring are the usual hiking seasons. With a suitable vehicle, the unpaved road to the Togoro plateau (Genna su Padenti) shortens the ascent to about 400 m.
