The standard ascent of the highest Komovi peak: from the Štavna plateau (about 1,770 m) through forest and under the scree of Kom Vasojevićki to the junction at Ploča, up the Međukomlje cirque to the Ćafa od Carina pass (2,177 m), then steep scree, a rock cleft and a narrow, loose summit ridge. About 5 km and 720 m of ascent each way; about 3 hours up.

From the Eko-Katun Štavna and the parking on the Štavna plateau, a gravel road leads about 1.8 km to the foot of Kom Vasojevićki, where there are wooden shelters, and a path continues about 400 m to a fork: straight on for Vasojevićki, slightly right for Kučki Kom (marked trail 352). The path undulates through blueberry, juniper and sparse mixed forest, crosses a fallen trunk and the largest scree slope in the massif below Kom Vasojevićki, and passes the Jankova voda spring. At the junction at Ploča go left (right leads to Ljevorečki Kom); the path then climbs the floor of the Međukomlje cirque over grassy and rocky ledges to the pass of Ćafa od Carina (2,177 m, also called the Kom or Međukomlje pass) between Bavan and Kučki Kom, about 2 hours from Štavna. From the pass turn right across a gentle grassy and stony slope, then climb steeply up loose scree on the south-west flank. A rock cleft 3–4 m high with few holds is the trickiest move; a diagonal scree traverse round the south side and a second steep scree gully lead to the summit ridge. The final 50–60 m of ridge is only 1–1.5 m wide, covered in loose rock and drops steeply on both sides; there are no cables. The roomy summit has a register box. Allow about 1 hour from the pass. Descend the same way, keeping to the red waymarks, as the rock off-route breaks away easily. The ridge is dangerous in wind, wet or thunderstorms. A shorter variant starts at Katun Martinovića and joins at Ploča; from the south, Carine (about 1,820 m) to the pass takes about 1 hour on a poor road approach.

Route confidence 75%Overview
At 2,487 m the highest of the Komovi, a compact limestone group in eastern Montenegro between Kolašin and Andrijevica. A marked route from the Štavna plateau climbs about 720 m to a short but loose, narrow summit ridge; one of the finest viewpoints in the Dinaric Alps.
The Komovi rise abruptly above high pastures in eastern Montenegro, a small group of three main summits: Kučki Kom (2,487 m) in the centre and west, Ljevorečki Kom (about 2,470 m) to the north and Kom Vasojevićki (2,461 m) to the east. Kučki Kom's north face looks across to Ljevorečki Kom, while its southern side is a wild slope of rock and scree, which the normal route climbs. Around the peaks are summer shepherds' settlements (katuni), and the Štavna plateau with guesthouses and rental cabins.
The ascent is short in distance (about 5 km each way from Štavna) but rough. After a long traverse below Kom Vasojevićki and up the Međukomlje cirque to a 2,177 m pass, the route climbs loose scree, a small rock cleft and a final 50–60 m ridge only 1–1.5 m wide with drops on both sides. In good conditions it is a satisfying scramble; in wind, rain or with other parties dislodging stones above, it demands care. The summit view takes in Prokletije and Maja Jezercë to the south, Durmitor to the west, and Bjelasica, Sinjajevina and the Morača mountains.
The area is protected as the Komovi nature (regional) park, with a small entrance fee at the barrier on the Štavna road.
Climbing Notes
Suitable for fit hikers with scrambling experience and a head for heights (T4, short UIAA I passages). Allow about 3 hours up and 5–6 hours for the round trip from Štavna. A helmet is sensible because of loose rock, and poles help on the scree. Stay on the red waymarks, especially on descent, as the rock off-route breaks easily.
Base yourself at Štavna (Eko-Katun Štavna or the Kobil Do guesthouse) or at Katun Martinovića, booking ahead for summer weekends; there are no shops nearby. The last part of the road to Štavna is a rough dirt track, passable with care in a normal car. Start early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms, and avoid the summit ridge in strong wind or wet conditions. Snow lingers in the gullies into June and returns in October; winter ascents are serious mountaineering.
